According to a recent EventHubs article, several clues suggest that the next major release for NetherRealm Studios will be Injustice 3, and that it is actively being play-tested. Some points rom the article:
An interesting posting was made on the website Good Gamer Group for this weekend which is a game publishing company often working with organizing NDA-covered play tests for upcoming games.
In this particular listing, they specify that the project in question for testers to try it out is a "AAA fighting game" as well as a "major 2D fighting game". Obviously, the game itself isn't named, but there are several things that, at least to me, point towards one specific project a lot of fans have been hoping for.
Upcoming fighting games that have been officially announced I could think of when looking at this were Virtua Fighter Crossroads, Dead or Alive 7 and Melty Blood Twi-Lumina. The first two are instantly disqualified because they are 3D fighting games, not 2D.
On top of this, the play test is being held in the United States, more specifically Culver City, California.
This leaves us with the basic premise that it's a AAA 2D fighting game that's being playtested in California, which also leads me to believe that it's more likely to be western-developed rather than a Japanese game.
Going as far back as August of last year, we heard that voice actors had mentioned Injustice 3 to fans, but later clarifying that they gave the wrong impression (a likely story if you accidentally broke NDA, to be fair.)
A mere month later, yet another accidental leak appeared to occur when an artist working at Warner Bros. Games listed Injustice 3 as one of the titles they had worked on.

To nobody's surprise, Mortal Kombat 1 will not be featured at the EVO 2026 fighting game tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be the first time since 2011 that a Mortal Kombat game will not be making an appearance. More▼The decisions to add mandatory assist fighters, radically alter many of fan-favorite characters, such as changing Cyrax and Sektor into females, along with a severe lack of content compared to other installments that came before it, left many long time fans of the franchise less than satisfied with Mortal Kombat 1.
Add Mortal Kombat 1's low turnout at EVO 2025, and the organizers probably felt it best to leave it off the lineup.

Sub-Zero’s appearance in the issue was announced during the Jim Lee & Friends panel at New York Comic Con 2025 when the DC publisher and president was joined onstage by none other than Ed Boone, creator of Mortal Kombat.
“We thought it would be really cool to pull in characters from outside the DC multiverse and kind of spice things up,” Lee said about the character’s appearance in the current event. He also joked that fans should look out for the “Death of Sub-Zero Anniversary Special.” At least, we think it was a joke…?
While DC has previously published Mortal Kombat comic books, including 2015’s Mortal Kombat X — and, for that matter, the DC superheroes have previously battled the Mortal Kombat characters in the 2008 video game Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe — this will be the first time a Mortal Kombat character has appeared in DC canon, never mind as part of a major DC comic book event storyline

On December 5th, 2025, streaming giant Netflix announced it will be acquiring the streaming and studio divisions of Warner Brothers. This acquisition will give ownership of Warner Brothers' extensive content library to Netflix, which also includes Warner Bros. Games. Now popular video game properties such as Harry Potter, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and of course Mortal Kombat will have new ownership under the streaming service. More▼
While not complete just yet, as the deal still needs government approval, it's certainly looking like this will be a reality for the Mortal Kombat franchise and Netherrealm Studios.
Not sure what this means for MK. I just hope it's positive. Definitely not sure how I feel about it.

After learning the sequel to 2021's Mortal Kombat movie was being pushed back from October 2025 to May 2026, fans were rightfully a little upset. More▼
Now according to Superherohype.com, the movie will be arriving in theaters one week sooner than planned.
Now, the sequel has been bumped up by a week, meaning Mortal Kombat II will arrive on May 8, 2026. The move makes sense and allows the movie to have some more breathing room before Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives on May 22.
While not a huge bump, it makes sense not to go head-to-head with a new Star Wars film.

According to the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, the release dates for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection have been revealed for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles. The digital version will be released on October 30th, with the physical version following on December 12th.

WB Games and Netherrealm Studios have announced Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, a new klassic bundle that will be released sometime this year.
