Mortal Kombat 1
A 2000 year old half-human, half-dragon, remained undefeated for the past 500 years. He won the title of grand champion by defeating Kung Lao, a Shaolin fighting monk. It was during this time that the tournament became corrupted as it fell into the hands of Shang Tsung. He disappeared after he was defeated by Liu Kang after nine generations of Earth warriors fell in Mortal Kombat.
During Shinnok's invasion, he returned from the shadows to seek out Liu Kang and crush him. With Shinnok defeated, Goro took his place on the throne of Shokan. He then negotiated a truce with the Centaurs, overseen by Princess Kitana. Kung Lao appeared, apparently seeking revenge for the death of his ancestor at Goro's hands. The two adversaries made an uneasy peace. However, by the time of Quan Chi's alliance with Shang Tsung, Goro had been killed in the assault on Outworld by the Shokan and Kitana's forces.
The allied forces of Princess Kitana and Prince Goro were locked in mortal kombat with Shao Kahn's army when Noob Saibot made his move on an unsuspecting and battle-weary Prince Goro. The two fought savagely, but it was Noob Saibot who gained the upper hand and mortally wounded Goro. Goro did not know for how long he lay dying on the battlefield, but when he regained consciousness, he was greeted by the last person he expected to see. Shao Kahn had found him near death on the battlefield. Though he was not wearing his battle armor, Goro recognized his voice. Kahn used what little power he had left to revive Goro, asking the Shokan to join him once again and aid in destroying a rising power in Outworld. In return, he would give the Shokan favored status and banish the Centaurs.
Goro accepted his offer. Goro placed his royal seal on the disfigured corpse of a fallen Shokan warrior and together the pair fled into hiding to regain their strength for the coming battle. Having found Goro's seal on a fallen Shokan warrior, his fellow warriors assumed that he was dead. Following Shokan tradition, the body was lowered into the molten rock contained within the throne room itself. Princess Kitana was among the mourners at the funeral. Goro aimed to take charge of the Shokan armies once more and use them to crush both the Dragon King's forces and the Edenian rebels.
In Mortal Kombat X, Goro has returned as a pre-order bonus DLC playable character.

Goro had proven himself a powerful ally of the emperor. But Shao Kahn had given the Shokan much in his return to power. Goro felt a gift of loyalty was in order. Having defeated Blaze, Goro had attained the power of a god. But to the forces of Darkness, this power was not meant for a mere Shokan to wield. Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Shao Kahn and Onaga all had anticipated victory, only to have it stolen from them. The four surrounded Goro in a vain attempt to wrest the power from him. Goro laughed, raised his arms and let forth an ancient Shokan battle cry. From out of nowhere an army of Shokan warriors stormed the pyramid and slaughtered the four attackers. The Shokan race will rule Outworld forever!
