Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat Trilogy was an interesting addition to the franchise. Trilogy was basically an anthology of the first four games all in one, and it was the first installment to be exclusive to home consoles - Sony Playstation and Nintendo 64, each with their own features and differences. Every character and background that appeared in a Mortal Kombat game was included, even the boss characters. And for the first time, Noob Saibot and Rain were playable, as well. While mostly just a treat for fans and another upgrade of Mortal Kombat 3, Trilogy did introduce some of its own exclusive features. It introduced the Aggressor bar, which filled as the kombatants fought. When the bar filled completely, the character would become much faster and stronger for a short period of time. The Nintendo 64 had 3-on-3 battles, and both versions had two-player endurance matches where players could choose up to eight characters and battle until every player's character is defeated. It also introduced a new finishing move called a "Brutality," which was basically a long button sequence combo resulting in the loser exploding. Many characters also received new special moves and fatalities.
