UPDATE: It appears this may have been false. Ed Boon responded to this latest news on Twitter with a simple "Nope." He wasn't specific about what exactly may be false, but I'm betting it's safe to assume all of it is.

Christopher Lambert, who played Raiden in the first Mortal Kombat film back in 1995, is in talks with New Line Cinema to reprise his role for the franchise's next installment.

In a short interview with loaded.co.uk, the actor reveals a few small details about the film's new direction.

They have a great idea for the third one. It will be very different.

We are going to be travelling through time but in a very special way. So imagine characters having a battle in the middle of London and then whoosh, you smash through a window and find yourself on the hood of a New York cab

Lambert also revealed why he didn't return for the 1997 sequel, Mortal Kombat Annihilation.

I didn't want to do it because I didn't think the script was very good. I didn't like it. I liked the first one.

I'd say that was a good call on his part!
