Last week at a Playstation Vita event in London, Sony revealed that a new portable Mortal Kombat game was in the works for the upcoming handheld console. Along with the announcement was a snapshot from the event showing "Mortal Kombat Vitality" during their presentation.Today however, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has posted via his official Twitter page that there is no game called "Mortal Kombat Vitality" currently being developed.

Now this could mean one of two things - 1.) Sony made a huge error and there is no MK game being developed for the Vita (highly unlikely), or 2.) the actual name of the game is not "Mortal Kombat Vitality" (probably the case). Considering Ed's history of posting cryptic statements, I'd say it's definitely the latter.

I haven' t thought of the second option you said Fuzz. I think it could be that. Perhaps they had a change of hearts at NRS and decided to change it to something else.

They're definitely trying to control the floodgates on this leak.
Notice how he said a game with the name "MK Vitality" isn't in the works. They do have the SDKs for the system, so they're obviously working on something....
But Vitality is a cheesy name..

It would be hugely embarrassing if Sony did make a mistake and the game is not to be released on the Vita.
I mean it is entirely possible that NRS initially planned to release a game on the Vita, but later canned it. However, saying that, I am still inclined to believe that it's just Ed Boon playing word games and there is indeed a game in the works.

Well Boon said on Twitter that there are three surprises coming up, so I'm thinking one is MKVitality, maybe MK10 for the next-gens and I hope to hear that Killer Instinct is getting rebooted

Why would WB/NRS be announcing something like that? They don't own or have rights to that franchise.

Killer Instinct was developed by Rare and published by Midway but I remember reading in some gaming magazine that Rare sold the rights to Midway back in 2002 or 2003 but I could be thinking about something else

Negative. Alot of people ask Boon about it on Twitter all the time, and he always says it would be cool, but there's not truth to NRS working on a KI game. I believe there was a videogame website that posted they were a few months ago, but it was bogus.

Id love to see a new KI but ive given that up lol.
I do think there is some type of action/rpg/adventure type game in the works though that is based in the MK universe.
