Mortal Kombat 1
Motaro first appeared as the sub-boss in Mortal Kombat 3. He is a centaur, and like the rest of his race, he harbors a deep hatred for the Shokan. The two races struggle to prove their superiority over the other to Shao Kahn.
Originally, the Centaurs were from Edenia. After Shao Kahn merged Edenia with Outworld, the Centaurs were now forced to prove themselves in this much harsher realm. Shao Kahn began favoring the Centaurs and used them to form extermination squads during his invasion of Earthrealm in Mortal Kombat 3, appointing Motaro to lead them.
After Shao Kahn's defeat, Motaro recovers the wounded body of Kano and brings him back to Shao Kahn's fortress in Outworld. After nursing him back to health, Motaro then imprisons Kano so he can later be punished by Shao Kahn for being defeated by Sonya Blade. It is at this point that Sheeva ambushes Motaro and severely injures him.
Believed to be dead, the Centaurs are left in disarray without their leader. This makes them vulnerable, and sometime before the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the Shokan put a curse on the Centaurs, turning them into Minotaurs. Losing their two hind legs, they are now at a disadvantage to the Shokan.
In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Motaro returns as a playable kombatant. His mission is to gain god-like power by defeating Blaze, thus giving him the ability to lift the curse and punish the Shokan for their treachery.
In the realm of the Outworld, Motaro's race of Centaurians has long since come into conflict with the Shokan. When Shao Kahn formed special extermination squads to eliminate the chosen warriors of Earth, Motaro was appointed to head this elite group of savage warriors.
Motaro Wins.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Flames lashed at Motaro's body as Blaze released his energy. The searing pain consumed Motaro as he staggered about the top of the pyramid. When at last the fire dissipated, Motaro felt the familiar sensation walking on four legs! He had undone the curse that had transformed his Centaur race into Minotaurs. With renewed purpose, Motaro vowed that the Shokan would pay dearly for their treachery.
