Kintaro made his debute as the sub-boss in
Mortal Kombat II. He is a member of the
Shokan race and commander of Outworld's armies. However, unlike
Goro and
Sheeva, he is of lower-class Tigrar lineage.
Kintaro possesses a more tiger-like appearance, with both feline attributes, as well as tiger strips on his body.
After the defeat of
Goro at the hands of
Liu Kang,
Kintaro vowed to destroy the
Earthrealm warrior. After
Shang Tsung's second defeat to
Liu Kang,
Kintaro challenged
Liu Kang in mortal kombat. Although he fought well, he was eventually defeated, much to the disappointment of
Shao Kahn.
Kintaro also makes an appearance in
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, both as a playable kombatant and as an enemy in konquest mode. However, it is revealed in konquest mode that the
Kintaro Taven faces was only an illusion and not the real
Kintaro.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy

With Goro missing, Kintaro steps up to take his place as Supreme Ruler of Shao Kahn's armies. Stronger and more agile than his predecessor, he is enraged by Goro's defeat. Kintaro vows to take revenge on the Earth warriors responsible.
Mortal Kombat (2011)

Like Goro and Sheeva, Kintaro is of the four-armed Shokan race. Unlike his aristocratic comrades, however, he is of lower-class Tigrar lineage. As is customary when recruiting Shokan and Centaur into Shao Kahn's service, one of each race must face each other in bloody kombat. Kintaro killed his opponent and, in an unprecedented act of bravado, roared for more Centaur blood. Centaurs leapt furiously into the ring to their demise. This savagery led Shao Kahn to appoint Kintaro his personal bodyguard.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Upon defeating Blaze, a thunderous voice offered Kintaro four magic swords. Each would be infused with the power of any warrior of his choosing. Kintaro resolved to give the weapons the powers of fire, ice, chaos and order. As if wielded by invisible hands, each blade found its victim and slew him. The vanquished souls were transferred to the weapons, and there they will reside. With the powers of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Havik and Hotaru at is command, none will challenge Kintaro and live.
Mortal Kombat (2011)

Kintaro's meteoric rise to glory in the service of Shao Kahn had inflated his ego and his hunger for exaltation. But his position as the emperor's bodyguard had stifled any opportunity for further achievement or recognition - save one. After killing Shao Kahn, the most powerful being in Outworld, Kintaro's fame had grown indeed. He had achieved the notoriety of a traitor. Now hunted by the Centaur, Tarkatan and Shokan, Kintaro lives a life of exile, a victim of his own infamy.
