The Elder Gods are the supreme deities of the Mortal Kombat universe, created by the One Being eons ago. Whereas lesser gods may only have power in a single realm or over a single element, the Elder Gods are more ethereal and seem to possess power in all realms and over all things.

The Elder Gods were the creators of the Mortal Kombat tournament. After witnessing the merging of Edenia with Outworld by Shao Kahn, the Elder Gods felt it necessary to put in place a means of preventing him from merging Outworld with other realms. They decided Shao Kahn would have to win ten straight Mortal Kombat tournaments with warriors from another realm before he could merge it with Outworld.

The Elder Gods are often depicted as dragons in the Mortal Kombat universe.
