Sektor first appeared in Mortal Kombat 3. He was the first member to be automated as a cyborg by the Lin Kuei clan. Designated unit LK-9T9, he was sent to find and kill the rogue clansman Sub-Zero during the events of Mortal Kombat 3, but was unsuccessful.

During the events of Mortal Kombat 4/Gold, the Lin Kuei begin to grow suspicious of Cryax, due to his prolonged exile in the desert. With their numbers reduced, the Lin Kuei send Sektor to observe and report on Cyrax's actions. Sektor finds out that the Special Forces were using the latest technology to restore Cyrax's humanity. Sektor then breaks into Special Forces headquarters and fires his missiles destroying everyone and everything in the lab.

Over the next few years, Sektor's programming had become more and more corrupt with each violent battle with Outworld forces. He decides he wants full control of the Lin Kuei for himself. He succeeds in killing the Grandmaster, however, he is defeated by Sub-Zero preventing him from obtaining the Dragon Medallion. Sektor then flee to Japan to form his own clan of cybernetic ninja warriors, the Tekunin.

During Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's Konquest mode, Sektor ambushes Taven in his father Argus' temple. Sektor brings him to his Tekunin warship, which is then attacked by Sonya and the Special Forces. In his Armageddon ending, it states that the energy from Blaze caused Sektor to become linked to Cyrax and Smoke, joined to become a single abomination of "flesh and technology."
