An elemental is a creature (usually a spirit) that is attuned with, or composed of, one of the classical elements - air, earth, fire and water. The most notable elementals in the Mortal Kombat universe are the earth god Ohona, the water god Kumari, and the fire god Hinoku. These four guardians protected Shinnok's amulet that was hidden deep inside the Temple of Elements, located in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal.

Blaze is also a very important elemental in the Mortal Kombat universe. In the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the fate of the realms eventually came down to the one kombatant that could reach Blaze and defeat him.
