While at a local Toys 'R' Us store last night, I stumbled upon the much anticipated Shao Kahn Arena playset from Jazwares. The playset retails for $37.99, and comes in a great looking box commemorating Mortal Kombat's 20th anniversary.
It also comes with a 5 inch Shao Kahn figure, naturally, which looks decent enough. Nothing really special here. It doesn't look great, but it doesn't look awful, either. At least he doesn't have the black nipples that the 7 inch Shao Kahn figure has.
The throne itself and the stone columns, however, do look very good. Don't let the flash from my phone fool you. The paint work and sculpting are pretty accurate.
I do have a serious complaint about the playset, though. It doesn't come with any female MK characters to put in the chains. For $38, it should at least come with a 4 inch Kitana figure to help complete the scene as it appears in the game! And considering Jazwares hasn't released any 4 inch female MK characters yet, you can't even go buy some to complete your display.
